Housing Resource Center of Monterey County honored by VA

The Veteran Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System recently honored the Housing Resource Center of Monterey County as an outstanding community partner.

At a ceremony in Palo Alto last week, the VA honored Housing Resource Center case managers Juanita Ruvalcaba and Kendrick Rutland for their service to homeless veterans and their families.

Ruvalcaba has been working directly with Veterans Affairs to house homeless veterans since 2009. Rutland himself is a decorated Marine Corps veteran, which has helped him in his work.

In October, the VA awarded the Housing Resource Center a Supportive Services for Veteran Families grant of $495,400 to help homeless and at-risk veterans and their families in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. The grant helps HRC to provide homeless veterans and their families with permanent, affordable housing.
