Santa Cruz sinkhole repair to impact West Cliff Drive traffic Tuesday

Repair of a West Cliff Drive sinkhole is slated to begin Tuesday, according to the city of Santa Cruz Public Works Department.

An intermittent traffic detour will be in effect throughout the project which should be completed by July 4.

The work will impact traffic on West Cliff Drive between Woodrow Avenue and Columbia Street, with detours unlikely to extend into weekends.

The sinkhole, which is 20-feet wide and nearly 40-feet deep, is close to the West Cliff pathway, connected to a sea cave. Wave action caused the sinkhole to open up on March 1.
