Ill hiker rescued by CAL FIRE helicopter crew

A hiker had to be rescued by helicopter from a trail at Sobranes Point Thursday afternoon due to a medical issue, CAL FIRE officials said.

The agency responded to a call for assistance just before 4 p.m. Responding personnel hiked about 40 minutes on a trail to reach a 67-year-old man experiencing severe chest pain.

Because of the remote location, CAL FIRE helicopter crew members brought in their C-406 to carry the man out. The patient was flown to the Department of Fish and Wildlife Marine Laboratory, where he was handed over to a waiting ambulance. His condition was not immediately known.
