Security Guard Arrested for Rape in Monterey

Officers arrested a man working as a private security guard on rape charges Wednesday. Police said that Daniel Lee Bell was using his security uniform to lure the victim.

The arrest warrant stemmed from an investigation initiated by the Monterey Police Department on December 30.

At the time of the attack, Bell was was on duty as a uniformed security guard, wearing a duty belt with pepper spray, a baton and a stun gun, said police. He was driving a marked security vehicle and was assigned to patrol apartment complexes throughout Monterey County, according to police.

The victim and her friend were walking home on the 700 block of Pine Street when Bell pulled up to them, said police. The pair thought Bell was a police officer, and the friend let Bell escort the victim home, said police.

Police said that once at the victim’s home, Bell assaulted her.

Bell is being held on a $150,000 warrant at the Monterey County Jail.
