Plane Crashes into Ocean South of the Pismo Beach Pier

UPDATE: Emergency crews have officially called off their search for the night after plane crashed off an Oceano shore just before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Pismo Beach Police dispatch took a 911 call from someone who spotted something crash into the ocean a mile southwest of the pier.

The Coast Guard confirms that debris, a wallet and human remains were recovered from the wreckage in the ocean. It appears there are no survivors and emergency crews are in recovery mode. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Dive Team is using sonar to look for bodies, but have not confirmed that any bodies were found.

Authorities could not say what type of plane was involved, but know it was a single engine.

The crash site is roughly a half mile off the coast of Oceano.

Employees with the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport say they did not receive a distress call before the crash.
