Marina residents concerned with escaped Salinas murder suspect still on the loose

Marina residents were concerned Tuesday night with escaped murder suspect Jonathan Salazar still on the loose after law enforcement surrounded a Motel 6 in their neighborhood for hours searching for Salazar.

“We don’t know where they’re at or where they could be hiding,” said Michael Dybczak who lives in the neighborhood behind the Motel 6.

A lot of questions are running through Marina residents minds after sheriff’s deputies were called to their neighborhood but no escaped inmate found.

“It’s really crazy. I feel pretty safe in Marina usually but something like this happening in Marina is just crazy,” Dybczak said.

Some neighbors in the same area could even hear authorities trying to communicate with Salazar in the room they believed he was hiding in.

“We heard more and more cop cars approach. And then all of a sudden, we just started hearing the announcements from the loud speakers notifying Jonathan to come out with his hands up,” said Lauren Eckert who lives behind the motel.

Now, they hope Salazar won’t be on the loose for long.

“I hope he’s not still in the area and that they catch him soon,” Morgan MacIsaac said.

Police had largely moved out of the area Tuesday night. There’s still no word on where the other escaped inmate, Santos Fonseca, is at this time.
