Second suspect arrested in Watsonville jewelry store burglary

Police have arrested a second suspect in connection to a burglary at Fatima’s Fine Jewelry last week.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Silvano Martinez on West Lake Avenue near Rodriguez Street Wednesday afternoon.

Police said on Sept. 27, Martinez and 29-year-old Jorge Garcia entered the jewelry store through a rear shattered glass door and stole jewelry. Garcia was arrested within 24 hours in a CVS Pharmacy parking lot. At the time, officers said they identified Martinez, but could not find him.

Martinez and Garcia went into the store about five minutes after a masked burglar used a rock to break the back door and steal merchandise, according to police. Surveillance footage shows the burglar wearing heavy clothing, gloves and a mask.

Police said they do not have any leads on the masked burglar, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Tyler Wildey at 831-768-3356.
