An investigation is underway after a bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision in East San Jose early Friday morning, police said.
Around 6:15 a.m., officers were called to East Capitol Expressway and Ocala Avenue on reports of a collision involving a cyclist. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The San Jose Police Department said that the investigation showed that a white 2017 Ford F350 pickup truck was headed north on Capitol Expressway through the Ocala Avenue intersection on a green light when it hit a woman riding a bicycle heading east on Ocala.
The man driving the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to police.
The incident was the city’s 37th fatal collision and 37th traffic-related death of the year. The woman’s identity was withheld until her family was notified.
Police asked anyone with information about the crash to contact Detective DelliCarpini #4103 of the department’s traffic investigations unit at 4103@sanjoseca.gov or by calling 408-277-4654.
