A French bulldog stolen in San Francisco’s Castro District last week has been found safe and a man suspected of stealing the dog has been arrested, police said.
The San Francisco Police Department issued an update on the case Friday, saying the stolen dog named “Hank” was located in Oakland by a good Samaritan, appearing in good condition, and was now home safe.
During an investigation by the department’s burglary unit, investigators identified a suspect and obtained a search warrant for his vehicle. On Thursday, police said the suspect, 44-year-old Dante Shaw of Oakland, was located on Wednesday.
Officers found Shaw in his vehicle at San Carlos Avenue and High Street in East Oakland. Police said officers and an investigator served a warrant, which yielded evidence related to the theft.
Shaw was arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of felony grand theft. According to jail records, Shaw is being held on $100,000 bail.
Hank was taken from his owner at about 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 10. Police said officers were called to the 400 block of Castro Street following reports of a theft. The victim told police that an unknown male had picked up Hank off the sidewalk before fleeing.
