Woman arrested in connection to the death of a man injected with fentanyl

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) - A woman was arrested in connection with the death of a man found to have been injected with a fentanyl overdose.

According to the Salinas Police Department, 35-year-old Andrea Sandoval was identified as the suspect after an autopsy performed by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office on the victim, 23-year-old Julian Diaz Sanchez, found that Sanchez died of a fentanyl overdose.

Sanchez's body was found on June 29, around 7 p.m., on the 200 block of Lodge Lane and pronounced dead at the scene.

Salinas Police began their investigation, reviewing evidence and developing new information that showed Sanchez might have intentionally been given a lethal dose.

Detectives had learned that Sanchez's vehicle and personal belongings were missing, believing Sanchez had been robbed shortly before their death. Detectives identified Sandoval as a suspect and arrested her without incident on Wednesday.

The case remains an active investigation despite Sandoval's arrest.
