Carmel-by-the-Sea holds street addresses workshops

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (KION-TV) - The city of Carmel held a workshop today focused on the possibility of street addresses in the city.
The ad-hoc committee made it clear that street addresses would not mean the loss of the city's beloved post office, as new addresses wouldn't affect people's ability to pay for their utilities.
Mail delivery would still be sent to P.O. Boxes as requested.
People who attended the meeting asked about the issue reaching the ballot box, but a council member on the committee says that's unlikely.
"One of the questions I put before my colleagues was, you know, 'Do you want to have an election this year?' And secondly, 'Do you think we should have an election at all?' And I believe four out of five of us just said like 'No election,' that this is our job," said councilmember Bob Delves.
The committee is also proposing a prototype map of addresses for the city. It would start in the single digits closest to the ocean. Multi-unit building would have one address.
Models were evaluated with four different draft models from quadrants, continuous with the county, continuous within the city, and logical and positional. The ad-hoc may be heading to continuous within the city.
The committee's findings will be presented to the city council in October.
