Monterey County tiny home, other housing projects receive updates
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Monterey County gave an update today on several homeless housing projects around the county.
The tiny village in Watsonville broke ground on Monday and will have 32 units. Tiny homes have already been delivered at a pace of four to six a day, county officials say they expect all of them to be delivered by the end of the week.
Officials are also saying that they broke ground on a King City permanent housing project last week that could house individuals who were living along the Salinas River by January.
And in Soledad, another tiny village is being built for 40 people, hoping to break ground in the next two weeks.
"I am grateful for all of the partners and colleagues we have pulled in to help make these projects come to fruition and also contribute to the success of permanently closing these encampments," said Monterey County Homeless Services Director Roxanne Wilson.
These projects were each funded through grants from the state of California.
Officials are saying that giving people a place to go and continuing enforcement is the best way to stop old encampments from coming back.
