Suspect arrested for possible arson in Capitola Target fire

CAPITOLA, Calif. (KION-TV) - A suspect was arrested after a reported arson inside of Target in Capitola Tuesday night.

According to the Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County, crews responded to reports of a structure fire on the second floor of Target. The fire was reportedly coming from the shelves in the sporting goods section.

Units report light smoke upon arrival, with the fire sprinkler system keeping the fire at bay, with further extinguishing done with a fire hydrant.

Crews evacuated shoppers from both floors of the store as they began to search. The fire is seen as suspicious, with one suspect taken into custody.

An investigation is ongoing.
