PG&E highlights the importance of Public Safety Power Shutoffs

PG&E

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) - With heightened risk for wildfires over the next couple of days, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is highlighting the importance of public safety power shut-offs.

The utility company says shut-offs may happen when red flag warnings are in effect, or when dry conditions and low moisture arise, and humidity is below 30 percent.

This comes after scheduled PSPS outages happened on June 19 in South Monterey and San Benito counties.

PG&E's Government Affairs Liaison Jazmine Venegas spoke on the importance of paying close attention to when shut-offs are scheduled.

"The outage, the PSPS outage, I think this is an area where we have canceled prior events, so I cannot stress the importance of always being prepared and taking these notifications seriously," said Venegas.

Currently, there are no public safety power shut-offs scheduled in our viewing area over the next seven days.

Updated information on future shut-offs can be found on PG&E's online outage map.
