Upcoming film ‘Whalefall’ sets Monterey County as its backdrop

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) - A film titled "Whalefall" was filming off the coast of Monterey and using the county as its backdrop for the upcoming project.

According to the Monterey County Film Commission, production occurred all last week. Locations used include Monastery Beach, Pacific Grove, Monterey High School, and Jacks Peak County Park.

The film is an adaptation of a 2023 novel by Daniel Kraus. The novel is about a man searching for his father's remains.

However, the main character ends up swallowed by a huge whale with only one hour left to get out before his oxygen runs out.

The film stars Josh Brolin, with Ron Howard as one of the producers behind the film.

The studio behind the film is 20th Century Studios/Disney.
