City of Salinas considers street sweeping program revisions

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) - The city of Salinas is considering revising some elements of its street sweeping program.

A report to the city indicates that while the program has good intentions, its implementation should be more thought out.

KION first reported that some people living in East Salinas were concerned about being ticketed despite the lack of available parking and the number of multi-family homes in the city.

The report from Clean Water Salinas showed that 80 percent of the Acosta area in Salinas and approximately 55 percent of the Alisal area of Salinas have low to very low curb access.

The study finds these are also areas with the highest amount of debris needing cleanup.

The report suggests sweeping opposite sides of the street on different days to help mitigate concerns.

The ordinance is still expected to take effect in August.
