Mother, daughter arrested for death of 3-month-old infant

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) - A mother and daughter from Royal Oaks are arrested after the death of a 3-month-old infant on May 24.

According to Monterey County Sheriff's Deputies, deputies responded to a call for a medical emergency inside a home on the 100 block of Hillcrest Road in Royal Oaks after 10:30 a.m.

When arriving, they found a three-month-old infant unconscious and not breathing. The infant was transported to a nearby hospital, where it was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed that the home was operating as an unlicensed day care with up to 30 children at a time.

The two women involved, 62-year-old Maria Marquez and her daughter, 35-year-old Johanna Marquez, were arrested.

Both were arrested on several charges, including involuntary manslaughter and operating a child day care facility without a license.

The investigation remains ongoing.
