Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk announces summer drone show, return of free movies

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) -- Summer 2025 at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk welcomes back free summer events, including fan favorite films and a new drone show.

The new show will take over the skies above Main Beach on Saturday, May 17th, with ideal views between the Giant Dipper and Undertow around 8:45 p.m.

Then, beginning on June 13th, free movies at the beach return with the classic 1987 film The Lost Boys where Santa Cruz played a role as the fictional Santa Carla.

The lineup will feature family-friendly favorites after with guests able to eat classic Boardwalk treats. Admission is free with seating available at a first-come, first-served basis.

Here's what's scheduled:

  • June 13: The Lost Boys
  • June 20: Men in Black
  • June 27: Ghostbusters (1984)
  • July 11: Jumanji (1995)
  • July 18: Clueless
  • July 25: The Wizard of Oz
  • August 1: Despicable Me 4
  • August 8: The Goonies

All movies will include a 15-minute intermission.

Other events for the Boardwalk include half-price mornings at the Boardwalk arcade, live music, and DJ dance parties for Evening on the Colonnade.
