Pedal in the Park brings fun to bike safety education

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) -- Bicyclists of all ages can have fun while being educated on bicycle safety at Pedal in the Park in Santa Cruz on May 3 at Depot Park.

20 local businesses and organizations come together to celebrate everything bike-related as the SCPD hopes to create a safer environment for bicyclists in Santa Cruz.

"We believe in fostering a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone to bike and move around," says Juan Castillo, Modo’s Program Manager.

Those interested can experience family-friendly group rides through Santa Cruz while learning proper bike etiquette and navigation skills.

Bicyclists who wish to test their mettle or show off can participate in the bike rodeo, try out new tricks, or accept a greater challenge at the obstacle courses.

Guests can also participate in a giveaway for free helmets and a drawing for a brand-new bike.

Pedal in the Park will be on Saturday, May 3, at Depot Park from 1 to 4 p.m. with free attendance.
