Man arrested for animal abuse of pet dog in Scotts Valley

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (KION) -- A man was arrested after hitting their German Shepherd pup at Scotts Valley Dog Park on Tuesday.

According to the Scotts Valley Police Department, there were reports of a drunken man arguing with dog owners before walking away. It was then that those at the park saw the man hit his eight-month-old dog with a metal cup.

Scotts Valley Police officers showed up and detained the man. The unknown man had run into the law before with an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

He was arrested on multiple charges, including willful cruelty to animals.

As for the German Shepherd, they appeared uninjured, but were taken in by a nearby animal hospital to be evaluated.
