Castroville man arrested for gun, meth possession

CASTROVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A man from Castroville was arrested after a search warrant during a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, the traffic stop happened at 12:24 p.m. near Merrit Street as they stopped the driver, 23-year-old Jesus Rivas Arias, for vehicle code violations.

Arias was discovered to have an arrest warrant. Upon searching his vehicle, an MCSO deputy found ammunition. Arias was a convicted felon prohibited from owning ammunition.

After obtaining a search warrant for Arias's home on McDougall Street in Castroville, another MCSO deputy found a half-pound of methamphetamine and a stolen handgun.

Arias was taken into the Monterey County Jail for multiple charges including possession of a firearm and possession of meth.
