Regent’s Slide undergoing repairs with remote-controlled equipment

BIG SUR, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Caltrans District 5 says efforts to repair Regent's Slide are now supported by new remote-controlled heavy equipment.

Highway 1 in that area has been shut down due to the slide since February 2024.

Caltrans says incorporating the new remote-controlled bulldozer and excavator will help increase production and improve worker safety.

That's because the remote-controlled equipment can operate under conditions and at locations that would be unsafe for crews.

Caltrans says repairs to Regent's Slide are now expected to keep Highway 1 in that area closed through the summer.
