Cause of death revealed in Santa Cruz Mountains homicide, no threat to public as search for suspect continues
LOS GATOS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Updated 10:51 a.m. 4/3/2025 - The cause of death of the two victims in the Santa Cruz Mountains has been revealed.
According to Santa Clara Medical Examiner-Coroner off, both victims, Colter White and Sean Pfeffer, were killed by gunshot wounds to the chest.
In talking to CHP Golden Gate Division, they told KION that based on information so far, it is believed to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
A suspect has yet to be identified as the investigation continues.
Second victim identified in Santa Cruz Mountains double homicide investigation
LOS GATOS, Calif. (KION-TV) - UPDATED 9:20 a.m. 4/1/2025 - The second victim's identity in the Santa Cruz Mountains has been identified as 54-year-old Colter White of Boulder Creek.
White's younger sister, Mink Anthea Perez, confirmed the identity. Both men were found dead near Castle Rock State Park with their deaths being ruled as a homicide.
CHP continues to investigate with no suspects identified.

The CHP is now investigating two men found dead in the Santa Cruz Mountains as a double homicide. Investigators say they were found dead Monday around 6:53 p.m. along State Route 35 near Castle Rock State Park in Los Gatos, although they have not confirmed the exact location.
The sister of 45-year-old Sean Pfeffer from Boulder Creek says he’s one of the two men found dead.
Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death and victims’ injuries.
Sean’s sister Nicki Monroe Dorris remembers him saying in part, “He's my baby brother. We are 2 years apart. He would have turned 46 as of next Monday… he looks like a [pit]Bull but his heart is made of gold. He was a father, a son, a brother and an uncle… I miss him so much it physically hurts!"
Just hours before the reported incident, Sean shared this post to Facebook:
“If today isn't work out know that it was James Collier the piece of crap that I invited to this mountain that still hasn't left it and is working the f* out of my f**** cousin. I'm rolling down there right now jimmy I hope you shoot me."
So far, investigators have not provided information on a possible suspect or the circumstances surrounding the two men’s deaths. However they did add, their deaths did not appear to be the result of a crash.
