Nearly 250 burn piles expected in Santa Cruz, San Mateo counties through April

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- California State Parks will continue burning piles throughout Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties to alleviate forest health.

Accoridng to the County of Santa Cruz, burn piles will be happening throughout the following state parks:

  • The Forest of Nisense Marks State Park
  • Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park (Fall Creek Unit)
  • Big Basin Redwoods State Park
  • Castle Rock State Park

These piles will be monitored until cold and extinguished. The piles are scheduled to be burned between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Smoke will be visible while visiting and passing through the parks.

To avoid disasters, the burn piles will only be set off if the air quality proves favorable and the weather is good. If not, the burns will be rescheduled.

The Monterey Bay Air Quality Management District has permitted all burns.
