CSUMB receives $500k for new research greenhouse

SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Casual fast food chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is giving $500,000 toward a new research greenhouse at Cal State Monterey Bay.

The research facility will have four separate greenhouses and a main headhouse for students and faculty to innovate, experiment, and collaborate within CSUMB's Agricultural Plant and Soil Science program.

"This support will enhance our hands-on experiential learning and research capacity, empowering students to drive innovation in sustainable farming and tackle real-world agricultural challenges," associate professor and AGPS coordinator J.P. Dundore-Arias said.

The donations are part of the casual fast food chain's investment in the future of farming by donating to agricultural and farm-based programs.

"These impactful projects, headed by some of the brightest minds in ag innovation, create optimism for widespread adoption of sustainable agriculture and the future of real food," Chipotle's Chief Brand Officer Chris Brandt said.
