Suspect identified in the murder of a Cal Fire captain

RAMONA, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A suspect has been identified in the murder of Cal Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi in Ramona, the San Diego Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

The lead suspect in the case is 53-year-old Yolanda Olejniczak who has been the wife of Marodi for the past two years.

Marodi was found dead of multiple stab wounds in her home in Ramona, CA.

Marodi had been a firefighter since 1993 having gotten their start as a volunteer firefighter in Moreno Valley and as a seasonal firefighter in San Bernadino and Riverside Counties.

She was promoted to Cal Fire Captain in 2022 after being a Fire Apparatus Engineer.

Olejniczak is 5 feet, 2 inches and 166 pounds with brown hair.

According to CBS 8 in San Diego, court records showed that Olejniczak had previously been charged in the October 2000 murder of James Joseph Olejniczak.

She had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in this case and was sentenced to 13 years and 8 months in prison.
