Vistra Energy civil lawsuit town hall reflects on a concerned public
MOSS LANDING, Calif. (KION) -- A town hall focused on a civil suit in the aftermath of the Vistra fire welcomes residents and those affected to share their voices.
A civil lawsuit has been filed by Singleton Schrieber against Vistra Energy company answering questions about resources available and the suit.
The civil suit claims that Vistra neglected maintenance on their fire suppression system, leading to long-term health effects for some plaintiffs reported after the fire.
Longtime environmental advocate Erin Brockovich joined in the meeting to answer any questions those living in and around Moss Landing.
This included those outside of the evacuation zone.
Brokovich told people to journal what they find along with their symptoms and pay attention to their animals for possible reactions.
She also emphasized that people should not be afraid to speak up.
"Accidents happen first and then they have to get the science, so they may not know right now. They are doing the testing to find out for themselves what the hell happened and it comes too late. So you need to become your best advocate," Brokovich said.
The County of Monterey announced that heavy metals such as nickel, cobalt, copper and manganese were found in the soil after the fire.
Yet, only cobalt had the highest count as of last Monday.
