CAL FIRE seasonal firefighters return early, adapting to fire year

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) -- Local CAL FIRE units are beginning to adapt to a shift from a traditional fire season to a fire year.

CAL FIRE BEU San Benito-Monterey is bringing in their seasonal firefighters to work from mid-March to mid-December before being let go.

Using their emergency hiring process, 12 engines are fully staffed and ready to respond to emergencies and assist with fuel reduction projects.
