Cabrillo College President, Superintendent Wetstein retires
APTOS, Calif. (KION) - After seven years of being in his roles, Cabrillo College President and Superintendent Matt Wetstein announced his retirement.
He is set to complete his role on Decmber 31 of this year. This is to allow enough time to search and hire a new President and Superintendent.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the time that I have served as its leader, but after 29 years of service of public high education from political science teaching to administrative leadership, I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife Cindy and traveling," Westein said in a statement.
During his seven year run, Wetstein oversaw a hiring increase at the college, expanded mental health services for students and served in the creation of the colelge's Hispanic Serving Institution Task Force and Leadership Team.
He served as an Incident Commander in Cabrillos's Emergency Operations Center during the COVID-19 pandemic and served on several non-profit boards in santa Cruz County including United Way and the Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to his time at Cabrillo College, he worked at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California, in a number of roles from political science professor to administration.
Wetstein plans to return to Stockton once his retirement begins.
