New murals bring artistic flair to Mid-Town Lane in Salinas

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) -- New murals in Old Town Salinas bring an artistic flair to Mid-Town Lane to expand public art throughout the city.

United Way's Impact Center Mural Project had its ribbon cutting in September celebrating the new project. Since then, three murals have been added out of the twelve panels on the wall to cover.

One artist, muralist Jessica Soriano, was painting her contribution on Monday afternoon. Her design pays tribute to her Filipino background and the community at large.

“I wanted the Filipino culture to come back and kind of understand how we got here, what happened to us, and how we can move forward in this kind of community because it is a beautiful community," Soriano said. "And this design was built to exemplify the values of a successful community and a thriving community.”

Other artists featured on the path so far include Jesus Nunez, Amy Burkman, and Katie Santiago.
