Antioch man admits to sex trafficking of a minor in Salinas

(KION-TV)- The Monterey County District Attorney's Office says a man from Antioch has entered a "no contest" plea to human trafficking of a minor for purposes of commercial sex acts.
According to officials, 41-year-old Marcus T. Carter also admitted that he suffered a prior prison sentence and was previously convicted of a robbery out of Alameda County in 2013.
At around 7:30 pm on April 10, 2021, 13-year-old Jane Doe fled to a gas station near Kern Street in Salinas and called 911 to seek police assistance. When officers met with Jane Doe, they noticed she had two black eyes and a swollen jaw. Jane Doe reported to police that Carter took her from Stockton, California, and forced her to engage in commercial sex acts with buyers throughout California and Reno, Nevada for about one to two weeks.
After investigating the incident, it was discovered that Jane Doe was taken by Carter on April 3, 2021. Carter then forced her to engage in commercial sex acts in Antioch, Pittsburgh, San Jose, Reno, and Salinas, among other cities.
Jane Doe also reported to officers during the 911 call that Carter and two female associates were in the area and possibly in a rental car with Missouri license plates, or in one of the females Jaguars. Officers found Carter in one of the described vehicles and arrested him.
Carter will be given a strike for the charges, register as a sex offender for life, and be sentenced to state prison on September 24th.
