Three arrested after high-speed chase, standoff in Watsonville

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The CHP Santa Cruz announced Thursday that CHP K-9 officers successfully apprehended three suspects with multiple firearms and drugs Wednesday evening.

According to CHP Monterey Captain Nicholas King, a pursuit began on Highway 1 leading CHP to a home on Sudden Street where a standoff took place Wednesday afternoon.

They said that yesterday just before 5 p.m. a Coastal Division K-9 officer saw a white Buick sedan committing several traffic violations on northbound Highway 1 near Larkin Valley Rd.

Watsonville police officers were able to deploy a spike strip before the two passengers tried to flee but were apprehended, one of them was found with a stolen handgun, according to police.

Police say that the driver ran into a nearby residence but law enforcement established a strong perimeter and after a couple of hours, the driver exited the house peacefully and was arrested by CHP officers.

"Our search resulted in the discovery of a couple of shotguns and an assault rifle connected to the Buick’s occupants," police said in a press statement Thursday.

The three men were 17 (from Salinas), 23 (from Watsonville) and 24 (from Watsonville) years old, according to police. They say that all three men were arrested and face multiple felony charges, including felony evading and possession of stolen firearms.
