Capitola Appoints New Council Member
The Capitola City Council welcomed a new council member on Thursday night. Susan Westman came into the night as one of 14 candidates and left as the newest member of the Capitola City Council.
Westman has a strong history of public service in the city, not only a former city manager and community development director, but has kept that record going into the present day as the chair of the Capitola Planning Commission. Westman was also awarded with the Lifetime Achievement award by the Capitola-Soquel Chamber of Commerce in March.
She was the first choice for 3 of the 4 existing councilmembers, trusting her experience with public service in the city, Westman being sworn in immediately after the vote.
The council also reorganized its offices, appointing a new vice mayor with the newly full city council. Council member Margaux Morgan was appointed the new vice mayor, receiving unanimous support from the council, especially since she has held the office before.
