CAL FIRE looks back at the CZU Lightning Complex Fire five years later in library series
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) - A series of library events will examine the devastation and aftermath of the CZU Lightning Complex Fire five years later, commemorating what was lost and the resilience that followed.
The first event will be at the Felton Branch Library on Aug. 5 with a screening of the film "The CZU Fire In Thier Own Words - Fighting Fires, Losing Home, and Rebuilding Community."
Produced by the Mountain Community Theater and directed by Peter Gelblum, the actors play those interviewed on their first-hand accounts of the CZU Fire. The film speaks on the loss of homes, doing battle with insurance companies, and more.
Those attending are invited to bring a picture or item to contribute to the CZU Fire Community Memory Table.
On Aug. 12, California State Parks will present a Big Basin Redwoods State Park update at the Boulder Creek Branch for a conversation on the latest plans to rebuild the park and its status.
This will include plans for shuttle access to the park, tips on visiting the park during the rebuild over the next few years.
The Felton Branch Library will also play host to a remembrance event, Healing Through Art & Community: CZU Fire 5th Anniversary Event. This will be an all-ages event remembering the anniversary and the resilience showcased via art, music, and stories. That event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.
