Gabby Petito’s legacy: $100K for domestic violence hotline

NEW YORK (AP) — The mother of Gabby Petito is keeping the memory of her murdered daughter alive by speaking out on behalf of domestic abuse survivors. In the months since Petito’s death, there has been much second-guessing and many unanswered questions. Were there red flags that went unseen? More importantly, what can be done to prevent similar tragedies? That’s been a central focus for Nicole Schmidt, who is determined to build a legacy in her daughter’s name. Through a $100,000 donation from the Gabby Petito Foundation, Schmidt is now partnering with the National Domestic Violence Hotline to help others survive turbulent and violent relationships.
