1 killed, 7 injured in shooting at Morgan Hill party

A shooting at a large party in Morgan Hill left one person dead and seven injured Saturday night, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies first went to the area of Hale Avenue, near Miramonte Avenue, around 10:15 for reports of intoxicated people in the street and someone throwing bottles at vehicles.

However, as they arrived, a shooting sent more than 300 people rushing to leave the area. The sheriff’s office said one person was killed and seven were injured.

Investigators said preliminary information is that a handgun was used for the shooting, and they are looking for the person or people responsible.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation will likely be “lengthy and complex.”

The crowd had been at an “unsanctioned party” that was promoted online, according to the sheriff’s office.
