Homicide suspect mistakenly released from California jail re-arrested after 5 months

Five months after being mistakenly released from a jail in the San Francisco Bay Area, a man suspected in a deadly shooting in Washington state has been arrested.

According to authorities, the U.S. Marshals Service located 20-year-old Isaiah Andrews in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday. Andrews, who is from Seattle, Washington suburb of Kent, was taken into custody without incident.

Andrews was wanted by police in Seattle where he is suspected of fatally shooting 20-year-old Theodore Wheeler outside a hotel on Oct. 15, 2025. Three days after the shooting, Andrews was located by authorities in Contra Costa County and was arrested in Antioch following a pursuit.

Along with the warrant for homicide, Andrews was also being held on local charges and a juvenile warrant out of Sacramento.  

On Oct. 22, Andrews was mistakenly released from the Martinez Detention Facility. Deputies at the time said they launched a search of the immediate area after realizing Andrews was released but were not able to find him.

Additional details about Andrews’ arrest were not immediately available. Seattle police said Andrews will be extradited back to Washington.
