Community Meeting Scheduled discussing Concerns over the Miranda House
People living along berry road in Salinas are concerned about a proposed transitional housing project called the Miranda house. The project was announced back in June, meant to house 15 recently released inmates out of Soledad state prison to help them rebuild their lives outside of prison.
The project is made by Helping Empower Reentry Services Monterey County, the transitional housing project is located on Berry road and River road in Salinas.
Neighbors are concerned about pressure on the septic system with so many people in the home, and the ability of the HERS program to run the facility, concerns shared by Monterey County supervisor Kate Daniels. She says that her concerns stem from the organizer of the project having never handled a project like this one before.
Daniels is also reiterating the authority that the county holds over the project, saying that it's mainly over building and health codes, but her office will continue to act as a intermediary between concerned citizens and Helping Empower Reentry Services Monterey County.
Daniels says that her office has received more than 50 phone calls and over a hundred emails about the project from the community, now planning a community meeting on September 3rd from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Buena Vista branch library in Salinas. Representatives from state legislators and the california department of corrections and rehabilitation will be present.
