IROC Series returns to Laguna Seca with all-star lineup
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - For the first time since 2002, the IROC Series returned to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, bringing together NASCAR, IndyCar, and Formula 1 champions.
While IROC raced at Laguna Seca before, 2025 marked the first appearance of the series at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. With every era of IROC cars present, it also marked the first time all seven generations were showcased in one field.
Tomy Drissi finished first in a 2006 Pontiac Firebird to win the IROC Series Unser Family Cup race. Drissi fended off IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti and NASCAR champion Kurt Busch, who finished second and third, respectively.
The stacked class featured NASCAR legends like Jeff Gordon, Bill Elliott, Mark Martin, and Bobby Labonte. They were joined by more racing legends, including Jenson Button and Scott Pruett, amongst several others.
It was all orchestrated by IROC co-owner Ray Evernham, who brought together the iconic cars and drivers for Car Week.
"I want people to know how important the IROC Series was to motorsports history," Evernham said. "The fact that this is the first time that all seven generations of IROC cars have ever been in the same place at the same time and will be on track- there is no better place to do it than here at Laguna Seca."
