Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association dissolves organization

Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association announced they are dissolving their organization this week.

The group, known for promoting local wineries, stated that the decision was not made lightly but ultimately it came down to not having the funding to continue.

MCVGA was a member-funded group, and due to growing hardships on the wine community, less and less members were returning each year.

Despite these hardships, Scott Caraccioli, the former president of MCVGA, said that the wine community will continue to persevere.

"Things can be reconstituted, the deck can be reshuffled, and the value that MCVGA added doesn't get lost," Caraccioli said. "It gets repositioned with partnerships in other organizations and also has the community of all of us around to support each other so nobody gets left behind."

Caraccioli said that the County of Monterey winemakers are in support together and that he understands that everyone is just being extra thoughtful on where to pour their resources during these difficult times.

"Monterey County winemaking is here to stay," Caraccioli said.
