Temporary closure lifted at Monterey County Jail on third day of power outage

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) - A temporary closure for public visitations has been lifted at the Monterey County Jail, in their third day of power outage.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, the facility had been closed to the public since the outage began on Tuesday.

PG&E identified the issue and has turned off the power until repairs can be made, with the jail running on emergency power generators.

A supplemental emergency power generator was brought in on Wednesday to provide more power to areas previously without including, but not limited to, administrative offices, briefing room, and the main lobby.

All areas where incarcerated persons are housed have been receiving power throughout the disruption, according to MCSO.

While public visitations have resumed, work on the power safety issue continues, with the possibility of intermittent outages affecting future jail visitations.
