City of Santa Cruz inches closer on banning the butt

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) - The city of Santa Cruz may be closer to deciding whether to approve a new ban on filtered cigarettes.

The big push for the ban isn't coming from health concerns, but rather from environmental ones as cigarette butts are widely littered around the city and especially on local beaches.

The city is trying to follow in the footsteps of Capitola and Santa Cruz County, both of which passed similar bans for similar reasons last year.
