DMV urging drivers to steer clear of discounted registration scams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION) - The Department of Motor Vehicles is warning of fake ads claiming to offer discounted registration for drivers.

According to the DMV, the scam has been posted on social media claiming to offer 50 percent off on the vehicle registration fee.

The DMV never offers discounted services through third-party applications.

The post will then ask customers who click the link to pay via online payment apps, asking customers to provide their full names and license plate numbers.

The DMV said customers should avoid discounted DMV services, never respond to suspicious texts, and verify the source.
