Officials: Blast in Afghan capital kills 1, wounds dozens

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Hospital officials say an explosion in the center of the Afghan capital of Kabul killed one person and wounded at least 59. Kabul’s Emergency Hospital in a tweet said they received one dead body and treated 59 wounded. The Taliban’s Kabul Police spokesman said 10 people were injured in the explosion caused by a hand-grenade thrown by a would-be thief. There was no immediate explanation for the vast discrepancy in the numbers of wounded. Video shot by AP showed wounded being removed from the site, carried by passersby. The blast was the first in the Afghan capital in months.
