Soccer kits give young athletes virtual training amid pandemic

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

On Saturday, The Chevron Soccer Academy distributed hundreds of soccer kits at the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex for children in Monterey County resorting to at home practice during the pandemic.

Volunteers say this is a way to keep the young athletes physically active as they shelter at home.

“It was really boring at home so I really wanted to just go out and play. I thought that is was really cool and we get to receive one of these and we could practice at home," says ten-year-old Salinas soccer player Jocelyn Perez.

The kits contained a soccer ball, watch, ladder for drills and a virtual program allowing kids to practice with videos made by professional players.

A soccer complex coordinator says pandemic restrictions may have kept many people from coming out to the giveaway but adds they will continue distribute the kits for years to come.
