MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The city of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Department of Human Rights have signed an agreement to revamp policing in the city where George Floyd was murdered by an officer nearly three years ago. The state began investigating the Minneapolis Police Department shortly after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, knelt on Floyd’s neck for 9 1/2 minutes as the Black man said he couldn’t breathe. The agreement approved by the City Council Friday was the product of nearly a year of negotiations. Mayor Jacob Frey says the settlement doesn’t constitute change in and of itself, but it provides a clear roadmap for embarking on the work.
