BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Footage of a fatal traffic stop in central Louisiana between a Black motorist and white officer has been released by state police. The episode spiraled into a 30-second struggle on the ground before the officer shot and killed the driver, 45-year-old Derrick J. Kittling. Ben Crump, a prominent civil rights attorney representing the driver’s family, called the death “unwarranted” and “completely preventable.” In addition, Crump accused Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Rodney Anderson of racially profiling Kittling, saying he should be fired. The Nov. 6 shooting was recorded on the deputy’s body-worn camera, the dashboard camera in his patrol vehicle and also taken by a nearby bystander.
