HASSAKEH, Syria (AP) — The chief commander for the U.S.-allied Syrian Kurdish-led force says the Islamic State group is a growing threat, despite the killing of its leader in a U.S. raid last week. He told The Associated Press that his fighters — known as the Syrian Democratic Forces — took immediate security measures to contain active IS sleeper cells, but the group is proving to be a resilient insurgency. He said in an interview Thursday that IS fighters are still very much present in the wake of a deadly IS attack on a Syrian prison to free militants last month. That attack killed 121 fighters from the Syrian Kurdish-led force.
