RV sales spike following lifted restrictions
GILROY, Calif. (KION)
RV sales and rentals are going up now that people are starting to go back outside following the shelter in place.
A survey by the KOA Campgrounds of America shows 48 million people are expected to get behind the wheel of an RV for travel this year.
This is 28 million more than last year.
A transportation and camping expert, Mike Caudill, says sales went up 650%.
Some say getting an RV is a safe way to travel while keeping away from hotels and flights.
"We find that this is probably the safest way in terms of exposure to the virus," says buyer, Kwai Kong.
For others who may have struggled financially during the pandemic, RVs are a new start at life.
"Consumers want ease and they want affordability," says Caudill.
" A lot of people have been furloughed or laid off. How can they still get away, remain socially distanced and spend time with their family? And bring pets along? This is the way that they're doing it."
Each RV can range from 10 thousand to 200 thousand dollars each.
Some RVs are currently on back order after business closures during the pandemic but sales lots are selling more by the day.
