KPIX News launches on KION, expanding statewide coverage for the Central Coast

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)  – KION is entering a new chapter in local news by partnering with KPIX CBS San Francisco to bring expanded news coverage to viewers across the Central Coast.

Starting today at 5 p.m., KPIX News on KION will deliver the most significant stories from across Northern and Central California, while continuing to highlight local reporting, weather forecasts and community updates that matter most to residents of Monterey, Salinas, Santa Cruz, and beyond.

Viewers will now see:

  • Expanded regional news coverage from across Northern California, with a continued commitment to Central Coast stories.
  • Innovative weather forecasts, presented through CBS Bay Area’s cutting-edge technology.
  • Premium CBS programming, including top entertainment shows and live sports, alongside trusted local news .

This collaboration builds on a long history: KPIX originally supplied CBS programming to KION (then KMST) when the station signed on in 1969. The renewed partnership reflects CBS’s commitment to serving communities across Northern California — from Lake Tahoe to the Santa Cruz Coast — with trusted journalism and innovative storytelling .

KPIX News on KION represents an evolution in how KION serves its audience. While the station will no longer produce its own full local newscasts, the new partnership ensures Central Coast viewers receive trusted reporting, relevant community updates, and world-class CBS content all in one place

The KION website is also rebranding as kioncentralcoast.com, and will continue to be your source for local events, contests/promotions and community connection.
